Skip the Terror This Year
America’s birthday and fireworks go together like peanut butter and jelly.
That does not mean our pets need to suffer through it all.
CBD is a safe, highly effective way to help calm our pets, reduce anxiety and inflammation. We have endless amounts of feedback from Central Oregonians telling us what science can back up; CBD works.
I have questions about CBD…
What Is CBD and How Does It Work?
Early research into the use of CBD to manage distress in dogs and in humans may be promising. CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound that manufacturers extract from the cannabis hemp plants. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is another cannabinoid from the cannabis plant, CBD does not cause a high. It is non-psychoactive, and it is non-toxic.
There are cannabinoid receptors throughout the body in what is known as the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system regulates many of the body’s natural functions.
Is CBD a magic bullet?
Yes…and no. CBD works with your pet’s (both dogs and cats!) endocannabinoid system to help in a multitude of ways but new experiences can easily scare your pet. We suggest getting CBD now and working with your dog to associate happy, fun times with the products. Then, when it’s time for the big show, your dog will already associate CBD with their happy place.
This behavioral switch coupled with the physical effects of CBD will be the key to unlocking the most positive effects possible.
Is CBD Safe for my Pet?
In short; yes. The long answer is that CBD affects every animal (humans included!) differently so every pet will be fine with a different amount. Our current understanding is that you can overshoot the recommendation from the manufacturer without experiencing any health issues.
In general, we suggest 1-2 mg for every 10 pounds.
What else can I do to help with firework anxiety?
Behavioral training is going to be the single most effective thing you can do. This isn’t just great for the 4th either, it will be great for every day activities like taking a walk or leaving the house for dinner or to stop your dog from barking at the delivery drivers.4 Ways to help The AKC's Take on it
Are there any alternatives to CBD?
Absolutely! CBD is one of our favorite options as it is quick, easy and effective but that does not mean it’s your only option. We have a number of other calming products (keep scrolling down 👇🏻) but don’t there are some great free options too!Read More
Why Is My Dog Scared of Fireworks?
The main reason that dogs are afraid of fireworks is that fireworks make a loud, unexplainable noise, that dogs cannot escape. An unexpected firework will startle a human being. When something startles us, our body releases adrenaline, our heartbeat and pulse rate increase, and we instinctively feel defensive. Through our understanding, we can laugh the fear off because we know that fireworks won’t hurt us. A dog, however, doesn’t know what a firework is. So, as the noises continue, they become more and more afraid.
CBD works incredibly well for many pets, but it’s not your only option.

"You're killing your dog!" "I heard that trimming your dog's nails is bad for them" "If your dog won't eat their food, just give it a few days."
Yea. The internet and social media are chock full of terrible "information." It's more important than ever to get help in filtering out the noise and that's where we come in.
- We train. Way harder than any other pet supply store out there.
- We talk directly with the industry experts.
- We do our own feeding trials before we bring in new products.
- We love what we do.
So call, chat or come in and ask us questions. There are no dumb questions. We'll give you our honest opinion and back it up with facts and data. We don't pay our staff on commission so there's no financial incentive to give out advice that doesn't work for you.
You aren't an average pet lover. We aren't your average pet store.
